Common Issues When Adding a Review Widget to Your Website

Article summary

If your Review Widget isn’t displaying on your website as expected, don't worry - most problems are quick to fix. Below are the most common reasons for display issues and how to resolve them.

1. Custom Styling Breaking the Widget

Sometimes if you try to style our Review Widgets using your own website’s CSS or code, this can cause parts of the widgets to disappear, display incorrectly or to stop updating.

To ensure everything displays as expected, please ensure the following:

  • You only use the customisation options available to you within your Control Panel. If you need to change the size, background colour or number of reviews to display, please select the relevant option within the “customisation” or “additional customisation” sections on the widget pages of Control Panel
  • Avoid editing the Review Widget’s HTML or applying extra styles through your own website’s stylesheet

2. Pasting the Widget Code Into the Wrong Type of Block

On many CMS (Content Management Systems) platforms, there are often different types of content blocks – some for plain text and some for HTML/code. If the widget code is pasted into a “text” or “visual” block, it will often just show the code as text on the website instead of displaying the Review Widget.

To fix this, please ensure you:

  • Always paste the widget into an HTML or embed block on your CMS
  • Don’t switch back to “Visual” or “Rich Text” mode after pasting the widget code as this can strip out the code.

3. CMS Platform Specific Tips

WordPress

To implement the Review Widget using WordPress,  please open up WordPress, navigate to the correct page and ensure the following:

  • In the block editor use a Custom HTML block.
  • Paste the Review Widget code in there and preview to confirm it displays correctly
  • If you're using the Classic Editor, please switch to the Text tab before pasting the code
  • Avoid pasting into a paragraph or text block in “Visual” mode

Squarespace

If you’re using Squarespace to manage your website, please ensure the following when pasting in the Review Widget code:

  • Add a Code Block to your page
  • Paste the Review Widget code into the block and save
  • Please don’t paste into a Text Block as Squarespace will treat the code as plain text

Drupal

  • Set the text format to HTML
  • Paste in your Review Widget Code
  • Assign your block to the relevant region on the page and save
