Article Summary

Your profile description is your opportunity to tell parents about everything your setting has to offer.

The description enables you to give visitors to your profile a snapshot of your setting, including what age groups you accept, how learning is structured, what facilities and resources children can enjoy and what fun activities they may get up to.

Below we have provided some guidance to help you write a description and a few rules we ask you to follow.

Make your text unique

Your setting is unique, and your description should be too. This not only gives visitors to your profile the best feel for what you have to offer but also greatly benefits your visibility in search engines, such as Google.

Name and location

Ensure you include the name of the setting, its location and perhaps its surroundings.

Description content

To paint the whole picture of what parents can expect, outline what childcare services you provide, who it is for and what facilities and amenities are on site.

Here are some things you may want to talk about:

  • Type of early years setting e.g. day nursery, preschool, forest school etc.
  • What a child may experience during their time at the setting
  • Who the service is for e.g. 3 to 4-year olds, SEN
  • Staff-to-child ratios
  • Opening times and number of places
  • Learning environments and curriculum
  • Playrooms
  • Outdoor areas
  • Activities
  • Food and mealtimes
  • Community involvement
  • Awards and Ofsted ratings (dated with month/year)

Check spelling and grammar

Before you submit, go over what you have written to check spelling and grammar and to spot anything you may have missed.

Rules

  • Each profile must have a unique description. Do not copy and paste text from your website or use the same text for multiple profiles. Unique descriptions are essential to increasing clicks on your profile. You can reword or rephrase the same content but the words must be different.
  • Text must be written in third-person tense. That means saying ‘the nursery’, ‘the team’ ‘they’ rather than ‘our nursery’, ‘us’, ‘we’. This is to maintain daynurseries.co.uk’s impartiality when presenting options to child care seekers.
  • Groups must have a unique description for each member. Please also refrain from mentioning the number of nurseries in the group or the names of any other nurseries in the group as this may go out of date.
  • Keep your information current.Including recent or upcoming events can mean your information quickly goes out of date. For that reason, we ask that:
      • Do not include timely calls to action/events or promotions/special offers. Please submit a Press Release or an Upcoming Event instead.
      • Any references to Ofsted reports or awards should be dated with month/year.
      • Any references to new or recent renovations should be dated with month/year.
      • Do not include staff names. Please use the ‘Meet the Team’ feature instead.
  • No testimonials or quotes.
  • No links to websites, contact or address details.

Example description

[Your setting] offers children from birth to five years a warm, welcoming and stimulating learning environment where they are supported to reach their full potential.

The setting is bright and engaging with fully resourced spaces for children to explore. The purpose-built facilities are fully resourced and designed to help children learn through play, interact with others and above all, have fun.

Each child is assigned a key worker who communicates closely with parents to ensure they can follow their child’s development every day, giving them peace of mind that their child is in excellent hands.

The large, creative outdoor area enables children to explore the world around them in a safe, secure environment.

Mealtimes are social events and all children get together to enjoy the on-site chef’s nutritional, tasty food made from seasonal ingredients.

All descriptions are personally checked by staff and it should appear on your profile within 48 hours.

They don't mind amending spelling or grammatical errors but if your text does not comply with our guidelines, it may be rejected, and you may be asked to resubmit.
